Georges Van der Straeten (1856-1928 Gand, Belgium) was a lawyer until he became a student of the sculptor Jef Lambeaux in 1882.

The young Belgian lawyer moved to Paris in 1883. He exhibited at the "Salon de Paris" from 1885 to 1912.

The elegant sculptor found his true talent and sculpted his sculptures that are still called "Le Genre Parisien", delicate, spiritual and graceful sculptures.
He won several awards, including a silver medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris. He became a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1903.

Georges Van der Straeten demonstrated great technical mastery of his work and a high quality of finish

The sculpture is made of bronze with a patina and is signed on one side of the lower part. It has a seal of the Société des Bronzes de Paris.
